By Chance

I was in a jeepney, figuring out how much I'm willing to spend to have my cellphone fixed when someone smiled and said hello. She's an old acquanitance, we share a common friend in AITI and it's been almost six months since we last met. She's to do some grocery before getting home while I was on my way for a business appointment. We did the usual updates on each one's lives while veering into conversations about our common friend. We had coffee at Figaro where we shared a lot of insights on growth, creative juices and personalities. We probably talked for an hour or more, until I had to cut it short for my rendezvous at the Intercon. It ended just as sudden as it began but before parting, we both agreed that there's a good chance for us to be meeting again. It's been indeed a worthwhile evening.

Looking Timeless

I received an email from a former colleague, one i haven't seen for more than four years. Regarding the photo i sent her taken last August 1, she said that i haven't changed a bit. I get the same feedback from old friends, especially my high school friends. When I shared this observation with my officemate, i told her that i probably look timeless, not old, not young. As if my face got stuck into how it was after puberty and it's been like that eversince. Though i do feel the effects of a slowing metabolism ever since i turned 25. I grew proportionally 1 size bigger coz of it.

Tag-Ulan na Naman

dahil ba sa ulan
kaya tahimik ang karamihan
kanya-kanyang pagkulong sa kwarto
nagpapakalibang sa libro

sa ganitong mga panahon
ng kulimlim at hangin
di mawaring ika'y malungkot
antukin o tamarin

kaya't kayong aking mga kaibigan
huwag damdamin ang hindi pagiimikan
pagkat ang pagiging tahimik
karaniwa'y dala lamang ng katamaran

Anjin-san and Harry Potter

Finally got the chance to dwell into a non-IT reading frenzy. It's been a week now since I started with James Clavell's 'Shogun'. I wasn't disappointed when I first opened the worned out paperback that i kept in our Dolores house. The character of Anjin-san, no matter how smart and quick-minded, didn't seem to surprise me at all. Or maybe it's coz I've already watched the hollywood movie 'The Last Samurai' that in a way, presents a similar form of characterization. I immediately understood why the author had to throw in Blackthorne, so he'd have an excuse to look at the Jappos from a western perspective. The comparisons on both clutures in fact makes Europeans look more barbaric than the Far East nations. It's a captivating read, and has been a bad excuse for me to deprive myself of enough sleep.

More than halfway through Shogun, I finally had my hands on book 6 of the Potter series. Since more people are waiting in line for this, I had to get started. Once again, i found myself awake at 3 in the morning leafing through the pages of Harry Potter until I actually felt tired and realized that I need to get ready for work. It's such an easy read, and although the twists are not as surprising as before, I guess all the hype and discussion sort of burned the spark for this book. I really prefer to be clueless on the story that I'm reading. I like it if the writer is good in captivating his reader.

I've only gone through the first 200 pages of the book, give it another night.. err, morning or two, I'd probably be finsihed with it. It's just one of those stories that I can't wait to finish. Speaking of, I wonder how Shogun ends.
